One Little Word 2013: Less

Hi Friends!

For the third year in a row, I am taking Ali Edward's One Little Word journey.  The premise is simple, and Ali explains it better than I could:

"A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow. From my own personal experience, it can be a catalyst for enriching your life.

In 2006, I began a tradition of choosing one word for myself each January—a word that I can focus on, meditate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life. My words have included play, peace, vitality, nurture, story, light and up. These words have each become a part of my life in one way or another. They've been embedded into who I am, and into who I'm becoming. They've been what I've needed (and didn't know I needed). They've helped me to breathe deeper, to see clearer and to grow."

Two years ago, my word was balance.  I spent the year focusing on balancing all the areas of my life.  I worked on balancing my needs with those of my family, and I worked on balancing my time and energy.

Last year, I chose nourish.  I wanted to focus on how I nourished my body, mind, and soul.  I made some pretty significant changes in how I nourished my body, as I began moving away from gluten, and focused instead on healthier choices.  I learned to love flax seed.  I nourished my mind by teaching and coaching and reading, and my soul by delving deeper into my faith through Bible study and attending a woman's retreat.  I nourished my creative side and reawakened my love of scrapbooking by embarking on Project Life.  All-in-all, I think nourish was a good choice for 2012.

This year, my one little word is LESS.  This year I want to prove to myself that less is more.  I want to find that place where I am satisfied by what I already have, because let's face it, I am leading an incredibly blessed life of abundance.  I want to worry less, spend less, and buy less.  I want to use what I have, and not replace it with more.  I want to make less excuses.  I want to continue on my gluten-free journey, which will result in me weighing less.  I want to feed my family in such a way that there is less food wasted.  I want all of us to realize that we can all make do with what we already have--actually with way less than we already have.  I think this year could be life-changing for me and my family.  I am completely giddy about LESS

My plan is to set monthly goals related to my One Little Word, which I will share on my blog.   Accountability can be a powerful thing.

So, less it is in 2013.

Let's do this.

XO,

Vicki

  1. Mine is weight- physical, mental, faith. I can't wait to see how "less" unfolds for you this year. BTW I hope you and your family had a great holiday. I feel like I am finally coming up for air now that Elly is 10 months!
